Coach Aron Bassoff
Aron Bassoff has finished his first season at Oakland City University as the Head Men's Soccer Coach. Oakland City finishes the season 10-5-3 and has its first winning season in program's history. It reverses the previous season in which the men's soccer team finished a disappointing 7-10-1. Oakland City has now put themselves back on the map as far as being competitive at the NCAA II level. The team had an impressive 1-1 tie with fellow NCAA II Bellarmine University. The men's team spent 5 weeks either in the top 10 or receiving votes in the National Christian College Athletic Association(NCCAA) which they are dual members of. They also advanced to the championship game of the Mid-East Region for the NCCAA, falling one game short of qualifiying for Nationals. The 2009 edition of Oakland City University' men's soccer set program records for wins in a season(10) and goals for(48) and goals against (22). Bassoff also mentored player Adem Ali to break the program's single season record for goals, assists and points. Ali finished the 2009 campaign with 16 goals, 10 assists and 42 points. Ali also broke the record for assists in a career with 21 and sits 2nd with career goals and points.
Coach Bassoff has an intercollegiate career record as a head and assistant coach of 113-90-11. He has coached in 5 Region/Conference Championship Games (NAIA, NCAA III and NCCAA) and has coached 5 nationally ranked teams(NAIA, NCAA III,and NCCAA). 7 of his teams have finished with winning records. Bassoff joins the Mighty Oaks staff after coaching at the University of the Cumberlands and Palm Beach Atlantic University. Prior to that, he served as the assistant men's soccer coach then head men's soccer coach at Dickinson College in Carlisle.
While at Dickinson College, Bassoff was the Director of Coaching for Premier F.C. Underneath his leadership, the club produced 30 collegiate players, a state-final appearance, and two state semi-final appearances.
In his first season at PBA, he reversed men’s soccer history of six consecutive losing seasons with an 11-6-1 record. Bassoff also helped lead the teams to make history. He led the men’s team to their first ever Florida Sun Championship, their first ever NAIA regional playoff appearance, and their first national ranking. He also led the women’s team to a second place finish in the Florida Sun Conference, a NAIA regional championship game, and a national ranking as high as 7th. He produced an overall record of 40-34-3 at PBA and had five winning teams. At PBA, he was active with several youth soccer clubs and a member of the Coerver Coaching Staff.
While at the University of the Cumberlands he led the team to first back to back winning seasons in 6 years (16-5 in 2007 and 13-5-1 in 2008) and established the coaching record for most wins in women’s soccer program history with 43. The 2007 season proved to be a breakout year for Bassoff and the Patriot Ladies. The team reversed six consecutive losing seasons with an impressive 16-5 overall record. Those 16 victories were more wins than the previous two years combined. The Patriots advanced to the championship round of the Mid-South Conference tournament and advanced to the Region XI semi-finals defeating Georgetown twice in the process, a team that they had not beaten since 2003. Those two post-season wins were the first since the 2001 season. The 16 wins are also the second most in a season and the 16-5 record is the second highest winning percentage in a season. He was also a member of the coaching staff for Knoxville F.C., leading the U15 girl's team to 2nd place in the D2 State Championship and was a member of the Kentucky's Olympic Developmental Program coaching staff.
Under Coach Bassoff, his teams have still held a high standard for academics. At Cumberlands, he had 30 players receive the Academic All Conference award, 13 receive the NAIA Scholar award and three of his teams receive the NAIA Team Academic award. Additionally, he has coached 21 Academic All-American players.
Bassoff graduated from Messiah College with a BS in Sport and Exercise Science and earned a Masters in Sports Management from Nova Southeastern University in May 2006.
