Women's Golf 2007 Outlook

First year coach Brick Briscoe wasn't sure what he was getting into when he took the reigns of the Lady Oaks Golf Team. "When I started looking into the roster I realized that I had only 2 women on the team! I'd better start recruiting!" he said.

But from the initial meetings with those two young Women and the ensuing practices, Briscoe realized that he was dealt a pretty good hand. " I have two wonderful young Women on my team who work hard and really put the effort into getting better every day." said the Coach, "They really represent everything I love about Golf and coaching. They will be strong calling cards to attract the type of players I want to see here at OCU."

The Lady Oaks have been practicing at Prides Creek Golf Course in Petersburg preparing for the upcoming Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational on September 6. "We have a long way to go on some things, but overall I feel that my players will both post individual bests this year" the coach says.

"Katelyn Werne has all the skills, but she'd become a little rusty, it was exciting to see her in practice Wednesday truly thrilled by her own performance. It was like a light had been switched back on," Briscoe added. "Jana Davis is the kind of person that you want on your team in any sport. She is immensely coach able and has made a lot of strides in her short game. I'm pretty sure she's going to turn into a fine player by the end of the year. She's always the last one to leave the range or practice green."

After their appearance at the Summit, the Lady Oaks head to St. Joseph's on Sept 15.
