Shawn Warner makes first tracks at Heartland Crossing

Men's Golf Team Shows Promise.

The Mighty Oaks Men were up against some stiff competition at a couple of very nice golf courses last week.

Starting at the University of Indianapolis Invitational at Heartland Crossing, the men posted some uneven scores, yet showed a lot of upside after day one. Led by a solid round of 78 by sophomore Carter McDavid, The Oaks were confident that they could post better rounds on day two. This did not prove to be the case, as sophomore Shawn Warner was the only Mighty Oak to break 80 with his fine second day comeback of 79.

Coach Brick Briscoe remained upbeat, "Heartland is a punishing and deceptive test. The problems I see are more mental based errors. I have some strong golfers who are searching for their stride."

The Men traveled to The Summit in Owensboro, Kentucky almost immediately after returning from Indianapolis. "The Summit provides a different kind of challenge," offered Coach Briscoe, "While not as difficult in my eyes as Heartland Crossing, it is still no slouch. It is very well maintained and the walk alone probably adds a couple of strokes to your score."

Once again, Carter McDavid fired the team's low score of 81, with his teammates not far behind. "It was a brutal day for the guys," said Coach Briscoe, "I wouldn't call it a let down, but we've certainly got to play better as a group."

The Mighty Oaks have several days off to do just that. They host the Old Capital Invite in Corydon on October 2.
