FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Patti Buchta to be Inducted into OCU’s Hall of Fame
On November 8, the selection committee of the Oakland City University Intercollegiate Athletic Hall of Fame met and voted on the nominations for the class of 2008. Ms. Patti Buchta was the only nominee to garner sufficient votes to be named to the elite group of former athletes and coaches of Oakland City University. Ms. Buchta is a 1982 alumnus of OCU and was an outstanding athlete in both volleyball and basketball during her playing career. She is the all-time winningest coach in OCU history in both volleyball (172 victories) and softball (209 wins). She took her volleyball team to the NCCAA national tournament on two occasions. She has guided her teams to the NCCAA finals five times, including finishing as national runner up in 1999. She has been honored numerous times as Region “Coach of the Year” in both volleyball and softball.
Patti currently serves OCU as the Senior Women’s Athletic Administrator, the softball coach, the athletic department’s director of transportation, the NCCAA Clearinghouse coordinator, and insurance administrator, and is an instructor in business, physical education and history. She is active in her church, and is a Christian leader on the OCU campus as well as in her community.
Ms Buchta is only the 21st individual to be voted into the OCU Hall of Fame following the induction of the charter class of 13 members in 1992. The Oakland City University Intercollegiate Athletic Hall of Fame has its chartered purpose to recognize and honor those individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the achievements and prestige of Oakland City University in the field of athletics, and who have continued to demonstrate in their lives the values imported by intercollegiate athletics.
Congratulations to Patti Buchta, who exemplifies OCU’s commitment to education and athletics. The induction ceremony will take place on January 12 at Johnson Center.
