Admissions Requirements
International students from about 16 different countries are studying at Oakland City University. There are many reasons international students choose OCU:
- Athletics
- Small class size
- Personal attention
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale from an accredited, approved, or commissioned high school
- Minimum SAT score of 1250 or minimum ACT score of 19; OR
Minimum TOEFL score of 500 (paper based), 200 (computer based), or a minimum of 70 on the IBT and 6.5 on the IELTS (for students from non English speaking countries)

Paper based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
Score of 500 with minimum section scores of:
- Section 1 Listening Comprehension‐45
- Section 2 Structure and Written Expression‐45
- Section 3 Reading Comprehension‐45
- TWE (Test of Written English)‐4.5
SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test)
Score of 1250 with minimum section requirements of:
- Critical Reading‐420
- Math‐410

ACT (American College Testing)
Score of 19 with minimum section requirements of:
- English‐18
- Math‐17
- Reading‐18
- Science‐17
** Note that if you meet only the minimum required in each section you will not meet the overall requirement of 19 on the ACT.
IBT (Internet based TOEFL)
Score of 70 with minimum section requirements of:
- Reading‐19
- Llistening‐18
- Speaking‐19
- Writing‐18
**Note‐If an applicant is below the required score in one section of the required testing the University may choose to “conditionally accept” that student after review by the University Admissions Committee.

Admissions Checklist
The following is a list of all the information we need to process your application. From here you can download the pages that are required and that need your signature or you can fill out the necessary paperwork online and submit it along with your application fee. The items listed below are needed for acceptance and to complete your file. Once you have all the items please mail to the address listed below.
- The International Application for Admission can be found here.
- Tuition Deposit of $250.00 (This has to be sent in American currency)**
- Housing deposit of $100.00 (This has to be sent in American currency)**
- International Student Emergency and Health Insurance - Insurance must be from a U.S. approved provider and meet Federal, State, and University guidelines. If you are an athlete, insurance must must cover sports injuries.
- High School transcript original-Translated into English and converted into a 4.0 grading system. This must be done by an official organization such as WES (World Education Services). There is a fee for this, but we will not accept any transcripts without the conversion by an authorized organization or person.
- High School graduation certificate (copy)-Translated into English
- College transcripts (if applicable)-Translated into English
- TOEFL scores for non-English speaking countries/ACT or SAT for English speaking countries. There are requirements for each section of TOEFL/SAT/ACT tests.
- Housing Application
- Documentation of financial support. This has to be a bank statement for the past 3 months of the current year until now, converted into American currency (your bank can help you with this). The statements can be a combination of checking, saving, and retirement accounts.
- When we have received all of the required documents and you have been officially accepted then we will issue the I-20 form for acquiring a VISA.
**These fees have to be paid in American currency. We will accept Credit Card (the preferred method of payment) or American Express Money Orders. Please do not send checks without contacting us first. No drafts (checks) will be returned!

The SEVIS Fee
The SEVIS fee is charged by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and as of 07/26/2010 the cost is $200.00. It is generally a one time fee and is required of those who are applying for an F-1 visa based on an I-20 issued for initial attendance or change of status. When paying your fee you will need your new I-20 and a completed copy of Form I-901. You can pay your fee online by credit card. You must also have the receipt from your SEVIS fee with you along with your new I-20 for your visa interview at the embassy.
To pay your SEVIS fee online by credit card go to http://www.fmjfee.com, you will be asked to enter the school code of the university you will be attending. Oakland City University’s School Code is CHI214F10115000. You will be required to also enter your SEVIS ID number which is located in the upper right hand corner of your I-20 and begins with the letter N. Make sure you print a receipt, you must have this for your student visa appointment. Do not exit the receipt page until you have if fully printed as you cannot go back to that page.

To apply for an F-1 visa, please contact your nearest U.S. Embassy. Or go online to http://travel.state.gov/visa Be sure to ask which documents are needed for the appointment as each embassy may ask for additional items. Following are a sample list of questions that may be asked at your interview.
- Why do you want to study in the United States
- Why have you chosen this particular major to study
- What career will you try to have when you return to your home country?
- Why did you select Oakland City University? (cost, scholarship, location, etc.)
Here are a couple of tips for your interview:
- Make sure you can prove you have enough finances to cover your expenses in the United States. For example, if your parents own a business or if they own property then take the deeds to the interview.
- It is very important that the interviewer believes that you fully intend to return to your home country and not stay in the U.S.
- Do not talk about working in the U.S. Employment is not allowed off campus unless it is required by a class for credit, such as an internship.
- Do not mention any family ties in the United States unless you are asked.
- Always be very truthful.

There are several items you should purchase after your arrival on campus. These items include:
- Sheets-extra long twin
- Blankets
- Pillows
- Towels
- Back Pack
- Laundry supplies
- Dishes/Bowls/Drinking glasses/silverware
- Can opener
- Flashlight
- Hangers
- Telephone
- Personal Care items (deodorant, hairspray, toothpaste and toothbrush) ect.
- Alarm Clock
- Microwave (this is a necessity) the cafeteria closes over breaks
- School supplies
- Phone cards (for calling home)
- Clothing suitable for climate. (Heavy coat for winter) It does get cold here in the winter
- and hot in the summer.
- TV(optional)

Q: May a student live off campus?
A: Unless otherwise approved by OCU in writing, a student who meets all the following criteria is required to live in University residence facilities as long as space permits in such facilities:
- Full time; and
- Traditional undergraduate student; and
- Attending the Oakland City campus; and
- Receiving any University funding; and
- Does not qualify for the housing policy exemption.
A housing policy exemption is granted by the Office for Campus Life to those living with their parent(s), court-appointed guardian, or who are married.
Q: What is there to do in Oakland City, Indiana?

Q: How does a student register for classes?
A: New Student Orientation and Registration occur the day before classes begin for the semester. For the fall semester, new students have the option for early registration at Summer Spree. Summer Spree
Q: How much money will I need?
A: For the 2011-2012 academic year, the tuition cost is approximately $16,200 (U.S. Dollars).
Q: Can the application fee be waived?
A: No, the application fee cannot be waived.
Q: How will I get to OCU from the airport or from the airport to OCU?
A: The OCU International Representative will pick up and drop off students from the Evansville, Indiana airport or the Evansville, Indiana bus station. Those are the only two points from which transportation is provided by OCU. The nearest airport is Evansville Regional Airport (airport code: EVV).
