School of Education
The School of Education offers associate, applied associate, bachelor, masters, and doctoral programs. The university is a strong teacher-education institution in the state, and has provided numerous teachers for schools in the surrounding area.
The instructional staff has years of experience in elementary, junior high/middle school, and secondary schools – a prime requisite for the approval of a teacher education program by the Indiana Department of Education: Division of Professional Standards (DPS).
In 1988, the Oakland City University Board of Trustees designated the School of Education as the official unit responsible to the Division of Professional Standards for the teacher education programs at Oakland City University.
The School of Education is accredited by NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education).
Faculty holding rank in education, psychology, physical education, or technical education are voting members of the School of Education. Faculty in a specific content area are consulted concerning decisions about secondary education majors.
The School of Education is a learning and teaching community dedicated to OCU's mission: Oakland City University is a Christian faith-based learning community dedicated to the enhancement of intellectual, spiritual, physical, and social development for positive leadership.
