OCU Online
Welcome to Oakland City University's Online Learning
Oakland City University offers online courses for credit that can be applied toward your degree. Full degree programs are not currently available online. We may offer all of the courses online that are required for a specific degree, but campus visits consisting of workshops and other activities are required for that degree to be granted.
WHO?
Online courses are designed with a variety of students in mind. The online courses may meet the needs of students who are working and unable to attend classes during the times that face-to-face courses are offered on-campus or at an Oakland City University center. The online courses may also meet the needs of military personnel (locally, regionally, nationally, or deployed overseas), business people who travel, student athletes who are frequently on the road, as well as part-time or full-time students studying at Oakland City University's main campus or centers. Oakland City University invites both non-traditional and traditional students to explore ways that online courses may contribute to the fulfillment of their academic goals.
WHAT?
Interaction between faculty and course participants (students) occurs in via a variety of media: email, Moodle (the learning management system utilized by OCU online faculty), various web 2.0 technologies and social networks, and even telephone and snail mail where warranted. Most interactions in most courses occurs asynchronously (meaning you, your peers, and the instructor are not required to be online at the same time). However, some courses and/or instructors may require a synchronous component. This will mean that you, your classmates, and the instructor will all be online at the same time. If this is a requirement of a course, the requirement will be clearly indicated.
WHEN?
Registration time periods for all online courses follows OCU's academic calendar. Participation in fall and spring semesters also follows OCU's general academic calendar. Online summer courses start at the beginning of the May term and have a duration of eight (8) weeks.
Online Courses are now included under the Veterans Montgomery G. I. Bill, and Tuition Assistance. See more information at www.eArmy.com .
