OCU Online

Welcome to Oakland City University's Online Learning

Oakland City University (OCU) offers a selection of online courses and fully online degree programs.

Online courses are designed with a variety of students in mind.  The online courses may meet the needs of students who are working and unable to attend classes during the times that face-to-face courses are offered on-campus or at an Oakland City University center.  The online courses may also meet the needs of military personnel (locally, regionally, nationally, or deployed overseas), business people who travel, student athletes who are frequently on the road, as well as part-time or full-time students studying at Oakland City University's main campus or centers.  Oakland City University invites both non-traditional and traditional students to explore ways that online courses may contribute to the fulfillment of their academic goals.

Interaction between faculty and course participants (students) occurs via a variety of media: email, Moodle (the learning management system utilized by OCU online faculty), various web 2.0 technologies and social networks, and even telephone and snail mail where warranted.  Most interactions in most courses occur asynchronously (meaning you, your peers, and the instructor are not required to be online at the same time).  However, some courses and/or instructors may require a synchronous component.  This will mean that you, your classmates, and the instructor will all be online at the same time.  If this is a requirement of a course, the requirement will be clearly indicated.

Registration time periods for all online courses are the same as for OCU main campus courses.  Those registration periods are listed on OCU's academic calendar.  Participation in fall and spring semesters also follows OCU's general academic calendar.  Online summer courses start at the beginning of the May term and have a duration of eight (8) weeks.

Online Courses are now included under the Veterans Montgomery G. I. Bill and Tuition Assistance.  See more information at

If you do not know the name of your Academic Advisor, you will need to either contact the Academic Affairs Office (for OCU Main Campus students) or an AEL Academic Program Coordinator (for AEL students).

NOTE: If you are a "Guest" student, you will not be assigned an Academic Advisor.  You will, however, need to contact the Academic Affairs office to register to take an online course.

If you will be entering OCU as a student on the main campus or you are a guest student, please contact Academic Affairs:

Phone: (812) 749-1238

If you will be entering OCU as a student in the AEL program, please contact the Academic Program Coordinator (APC) at the center where you will be taking AEL courses.  Click here to access contact information for the AEL centers.

Make full payment for courses at the time of registration.  This is required whether private pay or employer pay.  Federal aid (Pell grants, student loans) is accepted.

Order books by contacting the Oakland City University Bookstore.  When ordering books, please specify that the course is online because books for online courses may differ from those used in classes offered on the main campus or at centers.  Highlighting that you are ordering books for online courses will help us better serve you.  Thank you!
