Oakland City University is proud to partner with the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI)’s STEM Teach initiative. ICI has brought together a group of private colleges and universities to offer STEM courses and workshops for K-12 teachers, including graduate courses that can lead to dual credit certification.
As part of this project, teachers will have the opportunity to take courses and workshops free of charge, earn credits or PGPs, and receive a $400 completion award for each course or workshop successfully finished. Participating teachers will also receive a stipend for course materials and books. The program begins this fall 2014 and is expected to run for another year. For more information about course offerings and the registration process, visit STEMTeachIndiana.org.
There are two ways in which teachers can participate in STEM Teach:
- Take independent courses and/or workshops. In this case, participants must simply apply and register for courses through the STEM Teach website.
- Complete graduate courses and transfer credits earned towards a Master’s degree. OCU’s School of Education offers several Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degrees, and many of the courses offered by OCU and other participating institutions can count towards degree completion. Participants who wish to incorporate courses taken through STEM Teach towards a graduate degree at OCU must complete additional registration and application requirements.
