ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Graduate students must meet the Department of Education’s eligibility requirements to apply for Direct Loans. See Eligibility Chart below:

Borrowers must:
  • have financial need for subsidized loans
  • be a United States Citizen or an eligible non-citizen
  • have a high school diploma or GED
  • have a valid Social Security Number (SSN)
  • make Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • register with the Selective Service, if required
  • sign FAFSA statement certifying that federal loan monies will be used for education purposes only.
In addition borrowers must:
  • be enrolled at least half-time as a regular student
  • be admitted to an eligible program
  • be accepted in to the Graduate MAT Program.

Borrowers are not eligible for Direct Loans if they:

  • are in default on a federal student loan
  • have inadvertently obtained federal student loan funds in excess of annual or aggregate loan limits, or
  • have an unresolved overpayment from Title IV funds.
